Über-kitsch, super cool and incredibly underground, Blu started life in the late 70s as a disco, however spent the past ten years or so operating as one of the islands premiere strip clubs (known as The Blue Rose). In 2007 however, Blu as we know it came into operation.
Located in Figueretes, just a ten minute walk from Ibiza Town and Playa Den Bossa, there’s a definite ‘Twin Peaks’ vibe going on, thanks to black and white checked tile floors, mirrored walls and dimly lit plush red seating, the entire venue still retains a bit of a saucy atmosphere, though the staff (and patrons!) remain fully clothed!
Open all year round, you can’t help but notice the local vibe once inside, as everyone seems to know everyone, with a balanced mix between Spanish and English crowds. Many of the island’s favourite parties adopted the venue over the winter, throwing one off, bi-weekly or monthly events, including Cocoon and Monza, ensuring the relatively new club enjoyed much success in its early days. Established local events such as Girlz Skool, Industria, What’s Up, Modern Balearic and Los Domingos Por La Tarde are also favourites of the loyal crowd.
For summer 2008, expect to see the same faces and some incredible lineups (featuring some of the finest local and international talent, including Pig & Dan, Arian and Guy Gerber) with spin off nights such as Nano, Sense, Mustang and Osos Negros. The music takes on a distinct minimal tech vibe while the location is not likely to be kept a secret for much longer.
