DC10. That’s dee thee diez in Spanish, thank you very much! A seemingly small whitewashed building on the side of the road as you head towards Las Salinas beach, surrounded by vast fields doubling as car parks (affectionately known as DC11) and not a whole lot else - unless you count the low-flying aeroplanes coming in for landing on the airstrip right behind the club. It’s fair to say that for your first time, absolutely nothing prepares you for it.
There’s a distinct feeling every clubber gets as you head up the dirt path leading to the club’s entrance. It reminds us of the way they say you can feel a buzz in New York the minute you step outside, except outside of DC10 there's the feeling of anticipation, the sound of the low-throbbing bassline deep within the club and the rumbling noise of the hoardes inside - that’s the buzz. It’s even the gritty taste of dirt in the back of your throat after breathing in the dust-encrusted car park - this is all part and parcel of the DC10 experience. And this is all before you’ve even lined up to enter its hallowed doorways.

Once you’ve squeezed past the very thorough doormen and paid your paltry entrance fee, you'll go from scorching sunlight into a dark vortex in mere seconds, but you’ll finally understand why people say there is nothing like this on the planet. It's been referred to as the greatest show on earth, the Studio 54 of our times and sheer pandemonium at times but whatever you want to call it, it's certain that DC10 is ibiza's famous hedonism at its best.
The main room is very club like, complete with lasers, podiums, couches and a merchandise store - and tends to get overlooked by those eager to hit the terrace. But after midnight, this is where you'll find all the real action taking place. It can be a heavenly air-conditioned retreat, a twisted dark haven or a dancer's delight - choose your own adventure.
Now enter the famous terrace. Don’t be under any grand illusions - there's no pomp and ceremony here. There are just four walls, painted bright yellow surrounding a dirty concrete floor with two bars and a DJ booth. Be sure to give a nod to the two Buddhas fixed firmly on either side of the doors dividing the two rooms - we don't even want to know the things they've seen in their time. It’s the terrace that shot DC10 to fame by hosting the mayhem of Circoloco on Monday mornings. Now an island staple party, it helped to pluck this old aircraft hangar from obscurity and turn it into one of the world’s most celebrated clubs.
For those based on the island year round (or those mental enough to fly back in for the occasion) the end of the summer season does not mark the end of DC10. Rumour after rumour about permanent closure perpetually haunts the club, but for summer 2008 at least, it's business as usual for DC10 - just the way we like it!
