Getting around - by land and sea

While Ibiza is a relatively small island, her terrain can sometimes seem quite difficult to cross but it’s easy if you know how - or at least who to contact!

BUSES
Catching the good old bus is the cheapest way to get around the island and a nice air-conditioned, way to sit back and enjoy the secenery too. Buses from major areas tend to run every half an hour or so, though more remote and country locations will have less frequent connections and also break for siesta between 1 and 6. At night, the Disco Bus (yes, that’s really what it’s called) runs between major resorts and the major clubs, so you’ll never be left stranded.

TAXIS
Definitely one of the easiest ways to get around Ibiza, during summer however, taxis can seem few and far between. The green light means available and taxi ranks are usually the best place to pick up a car, rather than trying to flag one down. Minimum fare is €3.06 and the daytime rate per km is €0.92 (from 06:00 to 21:00) while the night rate is €1.12 (from 21:00 to 06:00). Waiting time costs €16.52 per hour (from 6:00 to 21:00) and €17.64 per hour (from 21:00 to 6:00). There’s a supplement charge of €1.53 for the port or airport and €1.11 for telephone bookings.

Note that ‘mini cabs’ are illegal and the eagle eyed police are on the lookout for them, regularly conducting routine checks on cars on the roads to major destinations, so stick to the officials!

HIRE CARS
Having your own car while on the island can be a godsend - no waiting around for buses or taxis, taxis, the freedom to come and go as you please, head off the beaten track, explore the island and of course, somewhere to leave your beach gear while you go for a drink (though remember the designated driver mustn’t have more than one!).

Our advice? Book early - the later you book, the more you’ll pay and in the peak of summer (around mid-August) you’ll find that many car hire companies are completely booked out.

PRIVATE VEHICLES
A truly rockstar way to get around the island, whether it’s to explore, beach hop, arrive at a club in style, go shopping or simply show off, being driven around by your own personal chauffeur in a high specification luxury four wheel drive sure beats catching the bus any day!

From shiny black and glossy white Hummer H2s to Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes ML, Range Rover Sport and many more options, the cost of booking this service is surprisingly affordable, especially when split between a group. And with the strict new drink driving laws currently in force meaning you can be sent to jail if over the .025 blood alcohol level limits, having a reliable designated driver in Ibiza is essential.

BOATS
Travelling around our beautiful island by sea is a luxury you should indulge yourself at least once - the amazing coastline boasts over 100 beaches, many of them only accessible by boat. Sail by the mystical Es Vedra, cruise up to a San Antonio sunset or explore the pristine north of the island - not forgetting the option of a day trip to neighbouring Formentera.
