FAST FACTS:
CURRENCY: The currency in Ibiza is the euro - banks are open from 9am til 2pm and foreign exchange services are found in the airport and most major hotels and open til midnight.
IDENTIFICATION: You will need to carry some form of photo identification - it’s required to be shown in conjunction with a credit card purchase and many major clubs require you to show ID upon entry.
TELEPHONES: The national code for Spain is +34 - if you’re dialling a local number from an overseas phone, always remember to put the code in. If you’re dialling back home, don’t forget to use your own country code or you risk disturbing a little old Spanish lady with the same digits who’d rather be sipping sangria and watching the telly than talk to you!
WATER: While it’s essential you stay hydrated on your holiday, you cannot drink the tap water in Ibiza, no matter how thirsty you are. Five litre bottles of water are inexpensive, readily available and many stores are open until 4am or later so stock up on arrival to avoid getting that awful dry mouth feeling when you wake up with a hangover… again.
LANGUAGE: Across the island Spanish is spoken pretty much everywhere, though officially the language is Catalan. Pick up a dictionary or travel phrase book at the airport and get practising - making the effort really goes a long way towards winning over the locals. English, Italian and French are widely spoken in the major tourist areas but in the campo (country) and in the winter, you'll need to brush up on some basic Spanish to get by.
